Position Responsibilities:

  • Creating a safe and stimulating environment for the children encouraging children's healthy development
  • Appropriately managing children's behaviour and creating an environment in which good choices are encouraged and supported
  • Bathing (occasional and as needed)
  • Dressing
  • Changing diapers
  • Potty training
  • Children's laundry as needed or asked
  • Preparing food and snacks for children
  • Feeding children
  • Engaging in and supervising indoor and outdoor play (including walks or outing to the park)
  • Facilitating and encouraging outdoor play / outdoor time once per day, dependent on weather
  • Engaging educational activities and crafts
  • Helping children with homework
  • Reading to children
  • Tidying / organizing children's play areas
  • Administering medicine with parents'; direction, if necessary
  • Care for children and respond appropriately in case of injury or illness
  • Maintaining common areas used in daily activities in a clean and tidy state
  • Provide daily synopsis of children's day at the end of the shift
  • Engage in communication with parents to support children's growth and development
  • Engage appropriately and respectfully with any family members who are present in the household
  • Engage in open and collaborative communication and provide feedback to support a positive working relationship with employer
  • Be open and responsive to feedback from employer
  • Maintain a timesheet calendar to track actual hours worked and time off
  • Respect privacy of employer and children in care
  • Behave in a professional manner with employer and engage appropriately with children in care
  • Attend work on time and consistently.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Organizational skills to plan the children’s daily schedule
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Passion for working with children
  • Cleaning and housekeeping skills
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Ability to communicate and connect with children
  • Cooking skills
  • Understanding of nutrition guides and healthy diets for children of all ages
Experience Requirements:
  • Previous experience in childcare preferred.
Nanny education and training requirements:
  • Degree in education, child development, psychology, or a related field is preferred.
  • Health and safety training like First Aid and CPR are an asset.
